The Power of Plant-Based Skincare: Why Brite
Aesthetics Chooses Nature
Plant-based skin care is nothing new. Herbs and botanicals have been used in topical treatments for centuries. Now, as the world becomes more conscious of skin care safety and the benefits of holistic therapies, plant-based products are more desirable than ever before. Plant-based ingredients are now the largest category of cosmeceutical additives in the marketplace today due to the rising consumer interest and demand for natural products.
Long-known plant materials as well as newly discovered ones are increasingly being used in products of plant origin.
Let’s take a look at the benefits of plant-powered ingredients – including those used in Brite Skin Care – and why they’re a safer, more effective choice than many chemical-based products on the market today.
What Is Plant-Powered Skin Care?
Plant-based skin care is any skin care product that contains a high proportion of ingredients derived from natural sources, such as fruits, leaves, roots, bark, stems, branches, seeds or flowers.
These botanical extracts are chosen for their properties that support the health, texture, and integrity of the skin.
How Do Plant Ingredients Benefit the Skin?
- Safety and efficacy
The major advantage of plant ingredients is that they are gentle but effective, safe and non-toxic, without side effects.
Many commercial cosmetics use synthetic ingredients such as paraformaldehyde, parabens, phthalates, and ethanol that have been shown to disrupt or even damage the body’s natural processes. Parabens, for example, may act as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) along with other adverse health effects. Chronic exposure to phthalates will adversely influence the endocrine system and functioning of multiple organs, which has serious effects on fertility, child growth and development, and reproductive systems in both young children and adolescents. - Nutrient-rich properties
Many plant extracts have potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects that play an important role in protecting the skin from environmental damage. Phytochemicals act as free radical scavengers, oxidative stress inhibitors, metal chelators, and antioxidant enzyme cofactors. Some plant extracts promote endogenous antioxidant enzymes that protect the skin against increasing ROS levels under oxidative stress.
Camu-camu, for example, is an Amazonian fruit known for its high vitamin C content. This highly sought-after fruit extract has demonstrated the highest total phenolics content and the highest DPPH scavenging activity. When used in skin care products, camu-camu was shown to inhibit 70%of reactive oxygen species production and reduce topical inflammation. It also helped to protect keratinocytes against oxidative stress, making it ideal for use in the current climate.
- Anti-aging
Anti-aging isolated compounds from plants have been shown to improve skin elasticity by promoting collagen synthesis, improving skin elasticity, and enhancing smoothness. Ginseng extract increases antioxidant enzyme activity while also increasing collagen content, reducing wrinkles, and protecting keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts from damage caused by ultraviolet rays. It also regulates the enzymes in type I collagen to improve the elasticity and water content of skin.
Topically applied CoQ10 exerts powerful antioxidant effects within the skin and can support the maintenance of cellular energy levels, as well as replenishing the Q10 level in skin which is lost over time.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the benefits of choosing plant-based skincare over synthetic cosmetics. The unique properties of plants cannot be replicated by chemicals, and plant-based products also lack the potential adverse effects associated with synthetic products. For true rejuvenation of the skin and protection from the harsh elements of daily life, plant-powered skin care is the most effective solution. It’s why Brite Aesthetics choose natural ingredients for every one of their products, and why our customers keep returning!
“Nature has the power to heal, and plant-based skincare harnesses that power. Using products derived from plants nourishes the skin naturally, allowing it to thrive without the harshness of chemicals. Your skin deserves the gentle touch of nature’s best.”
- Regenerative and healing
Many plants harbor vital therapeutic mechanisms that support the repair and regeneration systems of the skin, such as enhancing keratinocytes, improving growth factors or neuropeptides, and/or increasing fibroblast activity. Vitamin C from plants is essential for collagen biosynthesis, serving as a cofactor for the enzymes responsible for stabilizing and cross-linking collagen molecules. Plants may also have important antimicrobial properties which contribute to wound contraction and increase the rate of epithelialization. Aloe vera contains several beneficial compounds which promote wound healing, reduce inflammation, and improve epidermal thickness and collagen deposition. Matrixyl is a palmitoyl-pentapeptide that promotes collagen formation and helps to prevent collagen degradation, which eventually increases extracellular matrix protein production. - Hydrating and anti-inflammatory
Plant stem cells are among the latest breakthroughs in natural skin care treatment. Plant stem cells support the healing and regeneration of a plant, and are highly coveted for their potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in human skin. Sea holly stem cells in particular are rich in polyphenols and flavonoids, and have been shown to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the dermis. These powerful extracts are now used in topical skin care treatments to reduce the signs of aging and enhance skin hydration, texture, and overall appearance.
